Rnd Phd (Microbiologist Fermentation Specialist) Scientist

Job Location: Cincinnati, OH

Description

A position focused on fermentation of probiotics and/or fermentation to recover expressed active; such as protein/enzyme synthesis and/or fermentation to produce sustainable materials (i.e. bio-refinery processes). With focus on strain development, optimization of fermentation, isolation and lyophillization conditions to maximize stability and efficacy. Develop mechanistic understanding relating process conditions to physical and biological properties of the cell and stability and efficacy. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplined team of microbiologists, microecologists, immunologists and bioinformaticians focused on developing new probiotic based products.

Qualifications

Job Responsibilities:
  1. To lead probiotic fermentation optimization work and develop core capability - facility optimization and core knowledge.
  2. Evaluate and optimize culture conditions (experimental and fundamental) (sequence data, stress protein, metabolite data) etc. to increase the stability, efficacy and yield as end points.
  3. Develop mechanistic understand of factors impacting stability, efficacy of harvested product.
  4. Development of supporting methodology to assess stability and efficacy post-fermentation (flow cytometry, stress genes, i.e. RT-qPCR).
  5. Optimize isolation and evaluate the effects of downstream processing on stability and efficacy.
  6. To provide support and guidance on scale-up, working with the plants.
  7. The position requires attention to detail. Oral and written communication skills, flexibility, dedication, and the ability to work as part of a team.
Additional Job Requirements:
  1. PhD in Life Sciences and/or appropriate engineering degree and/or MD or DVM degrees - preferably with 3 years industrial experience in fermentation.
  2. Extensive experience optimizing fermentation and down stream processing.
  3. Experience working with probiotics and/or metabolites/lysates.
  4. Experience scaling fermentation processes.
  5. Excellent communication skills.
